My Favorite Local Artist(Miguel Escueta)
MCA Music continues its 2007 mission statement of infusing new blood to the local music scene by releasing I Am M.E., the debut album of Miguel Escueta. The album includes the carrier single “Falling Away”, the follow up track “Isipin” which are both enjoying heavy rotation in the country’s hottest radio stations and getting an excellent video exposure on MTV. Plus seven more original compositions.
Miguel Escueta is really no stranger in the music scene, his recording “Let It Be” for the singing tilt’s official compilation album garnered a nomination for Best New Male Recording Artist in the prestigious 2005 Awit Awards. But Miguel broke his momentum when he decided to concentrate on finishing his Business Management in Communications Technology degree at the Ateneo de Manila University.
On the way to finishing his degree, he decided to return stronger than he ever was by adapting to a full band sound. He started by hooking up with a permanent backing band composed of seasoned performers Junior Devacais on lead guitars, Jeng Tria on bass and Francis Aquino on drums. The individual members of the group have performed with artists such as Cynthia Alexander, Ogie Alcasid, Sugar Shack and Michaelangelo. Devecais himself was on the helm of production process of this album. His biggest break came when his demo earned the nod of MCA Music President Ricky Ilacad; who never hesitated on making Miguel MCA Music’s 2nd contract artist.
His album showcases easy listening pop/rock music akin to the likes of Dashboard Confessional, The Calling, James Morrison and Lifehouse, among others. But the element in his music that Miguel is proudest of is the lyrics, for he believes that lyrics are the heart of every song and everything else evolves from that. )He draws his lyrics from real-life experiences, whether it be his own or his friends.’ His motto in life is “Vivite Somnia,” which is Latin for “Live your dreams” and Miguel has no doubt, that with his blossoming recording career, he is living his.
Miguel will officially launch his album on Nov. 16, 8 pm at Eastwood Central Plaza.
